Castle Themed Bedroom Design

Most children enjoy mythical tales, so why not create a Medieval themed bedroom. A mock castle wall and a wizard's chair are the key elements in this magical kids room.

		Fake sandstone walls Paint the walls cream. Draw brick outlines onto the wall and fix sign writers tape over the drawn lines. Add sand to paint and colour each stone individually. Varnish when dry. Brown oil-based artists paint will add further depth to the colour.
		Wizards accessories Fill shelves with accessories fit for a wizard. Spell books and potions work particularly well. Decorate with spiders webs.
		Velvet star bed throw Place two pieces of velvet with the topside facing each other and place a star in-between. Iron the material, and then separate the two pieces. The bottom sheet of material will now have the star attached to it and a thin layer of velvet on top.
		Night sky ceiling Paint the ceiling dark blue to resemble the midnight sky. Spray small circles on the ceiling using silver paint. Allow to dry and then paint a white stars on top.
		Window shutters Make shutters for the windows from MDF. Rout out small grooves for a tongue and groove effect. Paint to resemble real wood and use old-fashioned hinges and handles to complete the look.
		Furniture Enhance the mystical look by constructing a wizard's chair made of MDF. Cut gothic shapes out of the back and sides of the chair. Transform a plain cushion with a velvet sleeve and tassels and place on the wizard's chair.
		Final decoration Brighten the room by painting a mystical picture on the wall. Get inspiration from books, stencils and the Internet. To finish the look, add glow-in-the-dark stars, crystals, hanging plastic bats and spiders.


	Top Tip
	It's a good idea to assemble a mood board of images and materials associated with your theme. Dragons, castles, witches, unicorns and velvet can provide inspiration for the room.
